• Work with the UWGB Counseling center to find a way to get more support for students struggling with mental health issues

Plan to Pursue the opportunity

• Get a hold of the head of the department and set up an appointment to discus having student who are majoring in psychology who are studying to become a counselor.They would have to have so many credits in their majors and have to had taken certain classes to be able to be certified to help with this. This way UWGB doesn’t have to look for as many funds to find a full-time counselor and it will give the students experience before going into their field. It will also look good on their resume when going to apply for a job after graduation

What is your plan to gain access?

• Show statistics on how mental health issues across the country is rising in young adults. Bring up that its an issue at UWGB that students have to wait 3 to 4 weeks to see a counselor and that if we could have the students who are training to become one, we could help many students. It would clear the workload on the other councilors and would be cheaper than hiring more counselors.Because if you hire more you have to give them benefits, vacation, and match pay. Whereas with students you can do lower pay and don’t have to do the vacation, insurance, benefits, higher pay and all of that.

What will you do in the experience?

• With the experience I will work with them to try and get the wait list down so students don’t have to wait as long to get help with their mental health. If I can help our university, I can bring this idea to many other universities,colleges, and techs and help bring the numbers of dropouts of colleges due to mental health issues.

How will it benefit your purposeful exploration, personal, professional, or civic growth?

• I will benefit from this experience by trying to help others. If this works, I could help many students. If it works and is brought to other universities,colleges, and techs. It could help so many students. It could lower the number of dropouts due to mental health issues and it may also lead to higher GPA’s.Mental health issues lead to lower GPA’s and when they can’t get the help, they need they go down. So, if this works GPA’s could go up.

Fall Semester First Year: (First Year Seminar)

2. How will it benefit your purposeful exploration, personal, professional and/or civic growth? It will help me learn how to better manage my time and organize my classes and assignments.

POSSIPLE Spring Semester First Year:

1. What are the requirements/prerequisites? What is your plan to gain access? Possible idea for class
2. What will you do in the experience? Have a bake sale to make money to be able to buy material to make tie blankets to bring to a nursing home to give out to the elderly
3. How will it benefit your purposeful exploration, personal, professional and/or civic growth? Give us the opportunity to set up a bake sale.Then have to set up the blanket making process. Also when we bring the blankets to the elderly it will give us the experience of working with others and seeing the joy the blankets bring to them.

Spring Semester First Year:

1. What are the requirements/prerequisites? What is your plan to gain access? Get a hold of the people in charge of the people in the counseling department.
2. What will you do in the experience? Work with the head of the counseling department to try and get more counselors at UWGB.
3. How will it benefit your purposeful exploration, personal, professional and/or civic growth? It will help when filling out my resume.

Fall Semester Second Year:

2. What  will you do in the experience? Work with the counseling.
3. How will it benefit your purposeful exploration, personal, professional and/or civic growth? It will guide me with my field that I plan ongoing into with my career.

3. How will it benefit your purposeful exploration, personal, professional and/or civic growth? It will help me decide if I want to become a counselor at a high school or be a counselor at a hospital or some other place.

Spring Semester Second Year:

2. What will you do in the experience? ePortfolio.

How will it benefit your purposeful exploration, personal, professional and/or civic growth?  It will allow me to refresh my memory on assignments that I have done and how far I have come since my first day freshman year of college. It will also help professionally because I can show my future employers that I’m capable of uploading documents and I know how to work a computer which is needed in many fields.
