Fall Semester First Year: First Year Seminar

  • What will you do in the experience?

In my First Year Seminar I will adapt to the feel of a college level lecture and the college experience. I will work hard, making sure to absorb and analyze the knowledge the lectures provide me with.

  • How will it benefit your purposeful exploration, personal, professional and/or civic growth?

I will better understand the college atmosphere, but most importantly, I will learn more about the world and the knowledge it has to offer. This knowledge will allow me to grow as an individual with free will and thoughts.

Spring Semester First Year: Upper Level Writing Emphasis (The history of the English language)

  • What are the requirements/prerequisites? What is your plan to gain access?

The only requirement is to have taken HUM STUD 160, which I took in my final semester of high school. My plan to gain access has been complete before this year, however, the experience of the class lies in the future.

  • What will you do in the experience?

I will work hard to make every paper I write better than the last. I will do my best to absorb as much information from the lectures as possible by giving the professor my upmost attention.

  • How will it benefit your purposeful exploration, personal, professional and/or civic growth?

This upper level writing emphasis course will improve my writing ability and help me develop skills with literature. Additionally, I get to learn the history of the language I have been speaking my whole life. I think that looking back on the history of language, something so easy to take for granted, develops an appreciation for the creation of language.

POSSIBLE Spring Semester First Year: Service Learning Project (speak up)

  • What are the requirements/prerequisites? What is your plan to gain access?

I need to first complete COMM SCI 145 and my First Year Seminar to gain access to COMM SCI 146 where the service project will be completed. In the meantime, I will make sure that I try my best in these classes and come up with more ideas for the service project.

  • What will you do in the experience?

In the service project I want to help other people. I know many people want to help the animals or do an environment related project, however, I want to directly help people in need for my service project. I want to commit a widespread, simple act of kindness in some form that feels so incredibly human. I want people who need help to know that individuals exist that are willing to listen to them.

  • How will it benefit your purposeful exploration, personal, professional and/or civic growth?

This will be very beneficial to my personal growth, as I want to live a life of helping others. I don’t want to be rich, that’s not the life for me. I want to help the world become a better place for the people living in it. This project will give me another opportunity to help my community and world because whatever I vote the service project should be, it will be a service project that helps other people. This is a purposeful exploration through the path of helping others.

Fall Semester Second Year: Researcher Training

  • What are the requirements/prerequisites? What is your plan to gain access?

It seems that I simply need to sign up to be a researcher in the department I prefer (Safety and Environmental Management), and then I will be entered to take the online training for that department through D2L.

This training will give me the fundamental information I need to become a researcher, as well as providing me with an understanding of research. This training is not only a purposeful exploration but also a personal and professional growth experience.

POSSIBLE Fall Semester Second Year: Begin obtaining a minor in Philosophy (Ethics)

  • What are the requirements/prerequisites? What is your plan to gain access?

There are no prerequisites, however, obtaining the minor requires me to complete 21 credits of philosophy classes. My plan is to take all the ethics courses at the very least.

  • What will you do in the experience?

I will focus my learning on the ethics of sciences. I will look deeply into environmental ethics.

  • How will it benefit your purposeful exploration, personal, professional and/or civic growth?

Looking into ethics and obtaining a philosophy minor will be very important if I become a researcher. I must make sure that I understand the decisions I make and the reasons behind them when doing research. Understanding ethics will help me make the right choices to help as many people as possible.

Spring Semester Second Year: By this time, I should have all my gen eds out of the way, so I will focus on completing my chemistry major with an emphasis in environmental chemistry.

  • What are the requirements/prerequisites? What is your plan to gain access?

I need to work my way through a huge list of classes from lower to upper level until the total 87 credits required for this major.

  • What will you do in the experience?

This experience will likely take four years to fulfill so I can not say for certain what I will experience, however, I hope the chemistry information I learn in the next four years will make my passion for the subject even greater.

  • How will it benefit your purposeful exploration, personal, professional and/or civic growth?

This path will benefit every aspect of my life. I will purposefully explore this major along with other options while time progresses, I will certainly grow as a person, as professional environmental chemist, and I will better understand my civic duties.

POSSIBLE Spring Semester Second Year: Study Abroad

  • What are the requirements/prerequisites? What is your plan to gain access?

I have no specific location in mind, however, I want it to be a trip where I see a developing country to get a richer understanding of the world. The only requirement I know about is paying money, and since I have a year until this plan may be put into action, I can make a ton of money working full next over the summer.

  • What will you do in the experience?

I hope in the country I go to; our group of students will be doing some form of community service at least once during the trip. I will at least experience more of the world either way.

  • How will it benefit your purposeful exploration, personal, professional and/or civic growth?

I trip to a country much different than my own will provide me with a greater understanding of other cultures and the environment of the planet I hope save from this never-ending pollution. I will certainly grow personally and professionally from an experience of this sort.
