High Impact Experiences

Fall Semester First Year: First Year Seminar

1)     What will you do in the experience?

-My first-year seminar includes learning more about the history of the Vikings while helping us transition into college courses.

2)     How will it benefit your purposeful exploration, personal, professional and/or civic growth?

-My first-year seminar is showing me the resources available for me to be successful in college and teaching me the fundamentals to succeed in a college course.

 

Spring Semester First Year: Writing emphasis course

1)     What are the requirements/prerequisites? What is your plan to gain access?

-The prerequisite is completing English composition 100.

2)     What will you do in the experience?

-I will write different papers such as analysis and research papers.

3)     How will it benefit your purposeful exploration, personal, professional and/or civic growth?

-The class will help me further evolve my writing abilities, which will be a fundamental skill I will need for my career.

 

POSSIBLE Spring Semester First Year: Service Project

1)     What are the requirements/prerequisites? What is your plan to gain access?

-To complete my first-semester first-year seminar.

2)     What will you do in the experience?

-The service project has not been chosen yet, but it will benefit the community.

3)     How will it benefit your purposeful exploration, personal, professional and/or civic growth?

-The service project will allow me to help out my community and help me learn how to create a plan and carry out a project that will ultimately make a difference.

 

 

Fall Semester Second Year: Internship

1)     What are the requirements/prerequisites? What is your plan to gain access?

-Getting in contact with a professor or company within your field of interest.

2)     What will you do in the experience?

-Explore if this is a career path you enjoy and if you want to continue your studies in that field.

3)     How will it benefit your purposeful exploration, personal, professional and/or civic growth?

-It would help me gain work experience and help on a resume to grad school.

 

POSSIBLE Fall Semester Second Year: Move up to an instructor at Board and Brush

1)     What are the requirements/prerequisites? What is your plan to gain access?

-I am currently an assistant at Board and Brush.

2)     What will you do in the experience?

-I would oversee teaching the class and be in charge of the studio for the class.

3)     How will it benefit your purposeful exploration, personal, professional and/or civic growth?

-This would help me gain confidence and have an increase in responsibility.

 

Spring Semester Second Year: Study abroad in New Zealand

1)     What are the requirements/prerequisites? What is your plan to gain access?

-I would have to have a sophomore standing and at least a 3.0 GPA.

2)     What will you do in the experience?

-I would spend a semester studying in New Zealand and learning the culture.

3)     How will it benefit your purposeful exploration, personal, professional and/or civic growth?

-Traveling and studying in New Zealand would help me grow personally as a person. It would allow me to make my own decisions and explore a whole new culture and country.

 

POSSIBLE Spring Semester Second Year: Volunteering at BEAM

1)     What are the requirements/prerequisites? What is your plan to gain access?

-I would have to fill out the application and be able to have a certain time set aside each week to go in and help.

2)     What will you do in the experience?

-I would help at Bellin Hospital and be involved in their art therapy program with their patients.

3)     How will it benefit your purposeful exploration, personal, professional and/or civic growth?

-This would be influential in that I aspire to be an art therapist. It would give me insight into what my career would be like and help me get into grad school.
