Fall Semester First Year: First Year Seminar
The purpose of a First Year Seminar is to help out incoming Freshman that are put into the GPS program or have applied to the program! Basically, it is to help prepare students for college. This helps a lot by engaging students in activities, and showing them a lot of recourses as well. This will help students to be able to have a go to outlet when figuring out how to get things done successfully. It teaches many life skills, and can gain confidence in new freshman. It is so fun being involved with my awesome teacher and my super cool peer mentor. Professor Levintova really does so much for her students that I don’t think she realizes. She really helps keep people positive and always find the light at the end of the tunnel! Hannah is the most perfect peer mentor that I could not have gotten a better one! She really has become a friend, and has been so good at being trustworthy knowing that I can come to her for a anything! This has helped me significantly academically, and socially by gaining friendships, and pushing through my academics!
Spring Semester First Year: Service Learning Project
This is another event that is for incoming freshman in the GPS Program! This is part of the second semester GPS class worth one credit to continue from the first semester! This is with the same group as my first year seminar! The purpose of this project is to look at all the different problems around campus, or at least find a problem on campus that is needed to be solves. Us as a class, is responsible for coming up with a solution to this problem, or finding a way to improve it in many ways. We need to create something, start something, promote something, and spend our individual time to make a positive change around campus. This will put a great impact on the campus, community, and students, and even spread for the future freshman classes coming in to the program. I think this is something super important to do not only for class, but for the experience and the happiness of my personal self to have made an impact or a difference.
POSSIBLE Spring Semester First Year: Common Intellectual Experiences
This experience is very important for those who know what they want to do, and for those that need help for the path of their future. I have finally made the decision to double major in education and psychology. For education, I have to apply for that major. However, for psychology, I must declare that major and take certain classes for my major to be approved. Thankfully, I already have the requirement sheet for how to make psychology a major. Although this even will help me to exactly declare it so that it can end up on my diploma, and during graduation. This is something I definitely plan to do, not just possibly. Because then this will have me on the right path through college.
Fall Semester Second Year: Cross Country
I chose cross country as a high impact experience because of all the time and commitment. Although this is more of a self-high impact experience, I still think it matters and is very important. This really helps me around campus and during school because of how time consuming it is. It really teaches me the importance of time management. To do this, you obviously have to run, and be at least decent at it! It is also something very positive, because it teaches positivity, leadership, and strength. It definitely has changed me to a better person. This can also be spread for students around campus to want to be a student athlete, or want to do things to stay in shape. This is really important for those because it shows that being involved in things can really make your college experience much more enjoyable and rememberable.
POSSIBLE Fall Semester Second Year: Writing Intensive
To graduate, one must be apart in 2 lower level writing intensives, and 2 upper lever writing intensive. Since I am on the track to getting almost all of my gen eds done within the first year, I will only have a few left set for next year. I plan to do an upper level writing course to help me with my plan and to help me with college. These courses can teach you to be a better writer. It can help you with all types of life skills such as persuasion and becoming informative. I think this is very important to make sure one completes because it can help through the rest of college. With the education and psychology programs, I am lucky to have the opportunities to have these class in place of my major. This is because it is well known for both of these programs and will teach me better knowledge through the rest of my college career to carry on in the future of my choice of occupation.
Spring Semester Second Year: Education Program
Before my fall semester, I plan to apply in the education program. To do this, I must have a cumulative GPA above 2.75, pass math placement of math 99, and take a literature class to exceed these expectation. I have already accomplished the first two tasks, all I need is to take a literature class, which is why I am enrolled in American Literature class next semester. Although I will be applying for fall semester, I will start my acceptance in spring by doing upper level education courses to chase my dream of becoming a teacher. This is really important to show that you have the skills needed to further your skills in college. This is a really good program since the teacher field has been going downhill. It is important to try and get more teachers, but still with a high reputation and high number of experience.
POSSIBLE Spring Semester Second Year: Internship
This semester within the education and psychology program, both have a recommendation of the students to get an internship. This is really good to build on your resume and actually get hands on experience with certain situations. In my luck, both education and psychology have a teaching internship that one can apply for. This counts for both majors and can show good for any job in the future I will choose to apply for. I think that this would be a good idea during this time since I will have more background knowledge with my classes, and also being the semester that I do not have cross country. I plan to do something like this to really get comfortable with everything I will one day be doing.
