This year I’m proud that I made it through the year and came to college. My mom didn’t get the chance to go and she’s so proud that I’m doing something she never got to do and I’m happy I got to come here as well. I’m also proud that I did well in all my classes and did my best. I see my greatest growth in my independence. A lot of people at college still rely a lot on their parents and other adults in their life which isn’t a bad thing all the time but I’m proud of myself because I have become a lot more independent this year. I’m also very proud that I got a job on campus, I’m going to be an RA next year and I have a job I’ll be working full time at over the summer. I plan to keep doing well at all my jobs, help people as much as I can and continue to become more independent.
If I were to go back and do anything differently, I would have gone to more things/events on campus and work out more at the Kress center. I didn’t go to a lot of the events because of my old job I had in the start of the year which was working with autistic kids. I had to go to work after school every day and was there until about 8, then I would come back to the dorm, do homework, eat dinner and go to bed, I didn’t have a lot of free time during the start of the year. Not a lot of college kids have a ton of free time, but I didn’t have a lot of time to do fun things during the start of the year. After I quit that job I didn’t go because I just didn’t have a lot of motivation to get involved which I now wish I did and plan to do next year. I also plan to go to work out more next year, just to stay in shape and feel good after I work out.
If I had a friend that was considering going to UWGB I would tell them a few things. I would tell them a little bit about my time at UWGB and what the school is like. I would also tell this person that it is a smaller school and not a party school so if you’re looking for a big party school this isn’t for you. I would tell them that if they want to be successful here at UWGB or any college that they should get involved. I would tell them to join a couple clubs, go to events and sporting events. I think that getting involved and not staying in your dorm is very important to having a good time and having the full college experience. Another thing I would tell them is that you should not eat bad food all the time and work out. I think a lot of people starting off at college don’t realize how much eating bad food can affect your health and how fast you can gain weight. Having a good diet and working out will keep you on track in college. I’m not saying that you shouldn’t eat ice cream or candy at all but not all the time.
